Two Pilots Dead After Passenger Jet Hits Fire Truck on LaGuardia Runway
Both pilots aboard a passenger jet were killed Sunday night after the plane struck an airport fire truck while landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York, officials confirmed at an early morning press conference Monday.
The fire truck was responding to reports of an odor on board a separate aircraft when the landing plane hit it on the runway. Several others were injured in the collision. Officials did not immediately confirm the total number of injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now leading an investigation into what caused the deadly crash.
LaGuardia Airport remains closed as of Monday morning and will stay shut down until at least 2 p.m. Eastern time while investigators work the scene.
