Cathedral City Hosting Virtual Town Hall on Cannabis Odors Next Week

Cathedral City is inviting residents to a virtual town hall next Thursday, April 2, to talk about cannabis odors and what the city is doing to address them. The meeting runs from 5 to 6 p.m. over Zoom and will be led by City Manager Andy Firestine.

The town hall comes after the city toughened its cannabis odor rules last October, following complaints from residents living near indoor grow facilities who said strong marijuana smells were reaching their homes. Under those updated rules, cannabis businesses must submit odor control plans, install monitoring sensors, and respond quickly when a verified complaint comes in. Businesses that don't comply can face fines of up to $1,000 a day, and up to $5,000 a month for repeat violations.

Next week’s meeting is a chance for community members to ask questions and hear directly from city leadership about how those rules are being enforced and what comes next.

Registration is required to attend. Residents can sign up at zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_l9re-y-lSfCHLeuXUaespA.
