NASA Plans Permanent Moon Base with Regular Missions and Long-Term Human Presence

NASA is taking a major step toward the future of space exploration, outlining plans to build a permanent base on the moon.

The agency says the goal is to establish a sustained human presence on the lunar surface, strengthening U.S. leadership in space while paving the way for deeper exploration missions.

The plan includes more frequent missions to the moon, with targeted landings expected every six months. NASA says the effort will roll out in phases, beginning with robotic missions to prepare the surface and gather data.

From there, the agency plans to develop key infrastructure needed to support astronauts for longer stays, eventually enabling a permanent or semi-permanent human presence.

The initiative also marks a historic milestone, as the first crewed mission to the moon since the 1970s is expected to launch as early as next year.

NASA officials say the long-term vision goes beyond the moon, using it as a testing ground for future missions to Mars and beyond.

While it may sound like something out of science fiction, the agency says the technology and planning are already underway to make a lunar base a reality in the coming years.
