Indio Senior Center Offering Free Tax Help Through April

The Indio Senior Center is hosting free tax preparation appointments through April 13, with AARP volunteers on hand every Monday and Wednesday to help residents file their returns.

Appointments run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on an hourly basis, and they must be booked in person at the center, located at 45-700 Aladdin St. You can stop by Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., or Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to schedule a time. Note that Monday, February 19, is excluded from the schedule.

The service is free and open to anyone in the community, not just seniors or AARP members.

There are some limitations on what the volunteers can prepare. They won't be able to help with returns outside California, married-filing-separately situations, rental properties, farming operations, or businesses with losses or home office deductions, among other complex filings. The center says anyone unsure whether their situation qualifies should call ahead at (760) 391-4170.
