AmDocs Film Festival Showcases Local Artists Karen and Tony Barone in Palm Springs Premiere

The American Documentary and Animation Film Festival, known as AmDocs, is once again bringing creative storytelling to Palm Springs, featuring a mix of documentaries, animation, music videos, and student films.

Among this year’s highlights is a locally produced documentary spotlighting Coachella Valley art icons Karen and Tony Barone. The film, titled “Something to Entertain You,” premiered at the Palm Springs Cultural Center and offers an inside look at the couple’s artistic journey and creative process.

Directed by local filmmakers John and Mary Orlin, the documentary was developed over six years, capturing the Barones’ passion for creating large-scale public art that has become a signature part of the desert’s modern aesthetic.

The Barones, who moved to the Coachella Valley about two decades ago, are known for their playful and visually striking installations, including the well-known rabbit sculptures along Highway 111 in Palm Desert.

They say their mission has always been to bring joy and entertainment through art, something they feel has been embraced by the community.

The AmDocs Festival, held annually since 2012, continues through Sunday, offering audiences a wide range of screenings and creative works from around the world.

Tickets for screenings and festival events are available online.
