First Harry Potter series trailer drops, revealing new cast, music, and release date
The wizarding world is back. The first trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series has officially dropped, giving fans their first look at a reimagined journey to Hogwarts.
Set to premiere Christmas Day 2026 on HBO Max, the series begins with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” the first of what’s expected to be a long-running adaptation of the beloved books.
Visually, much of the magic remains familiar. The trailer features iconic locations like Privet Drive, King’s Cross Station, and the Hogwarts Great Hall—elements longtime fans will instantly recognize. But the biggest changes come in the casting and overall tone.
A new generation of actors is stepping into the spotlight, with Dominic McLaughlin playing Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The series also brings in major talent, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
One of the most noticeable shifts is in the music. Instead of the iconic score by John Williams, the series will feature a new sound led by Hans Zimmer, signaling a different tone for this retelling.
Production is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, the same location used for the original films. Reports suggest the series could cost up to $100 million per episode, potentially making it one of the most expensive television productions ever.
While the story remains the same at its core, the new series is aiming to introduce Harry Potter to a new generation—while giving longtime fans a fresh perspective on a familiar world.
