Meet our Pet of the Week: Rosie!

Veronica Perez from Riverside County Animal Services stopped by NBC Palm Springs with an irresistible face you won't soon forget. Rosie is a 12-week-old female Labrador Retriever mix (Shelter ID: A1903578) available for adoption at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms. This little love bug may have been a bit shy under the studio lights, but Veronica says she's a total sweetheart who gives kisses on command. Rosie's sister has already been adopted, so now it's her turn to find her forever home. With petite paws and a gentle temperament, she's expected to stay on the smaller to medium side.

Also looking for homes are Douglas (ID: A1902396), a playful one-year-old Terrier mix with a scruffy coat and a wagging tail who arrived at the shelter on March 10, and Sandy (ID: A1896494), a sweet two-year-old Boxer and Pit Bull Terrier mix with a beautiful brindle coat who has been at the shelter since January 20.

The Coachella Valley Animal Campus is heading into kitten season and needs your help. If adoption isn't the right fit right now, consider fostering, including bottle-feeding newborn kittens who arrive without their moms. The shelter also offers Fido Walks, a program that lets you take a shelter dog out for the day, no long-term commitment required.

Veronica also reminded pet owners to take the heat seriously. If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws. Walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening, keep fresh water and shade available at all times, and watch for signs of heat stroke including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse.

To adopt Rosie, Douglas, or Sandy, visit the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms or go to rcdas.org for more information on fostering and volunteering.
