Truck Fire Sparks Delays, Brief Brush Fire Near Whitewater

Fire crews are on the scene of a tractor-trailer blaze just north of Palm Springs.

The fire broke out near the rest area off the I-10 in Whitewater, sending thick smoke into the air and causing major traffic delays for drivers in the area.

According to CAL FIRE, the flames also sparked a small brush fire nearby, which was quickly contained by responding crews.

Firefighters from Palm Springs Fire Department are assisting at the scene, working to fully extinguish the blaze and secure the area.

Officials say crews are expected to remain on scene until around 7 p.m., and motorists should continue to expect delays along the freeway.

No injuries have been reported.
