AmDocs Film Festival Returns to Palm Springs Showcasing Global and Local Talent

The American Documentary and Animation Film Festival, known as AmDocs, is back in Palm Springs this weekend, bringing together filmmakers from across the globe while continuing to shine a spotlight on local talent.

Held at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the festival features hundreds of documentary films, animated shorts, and student projects, offering a wide range of storytelling perspectives.

Festival founder and director Teddy Gruya says the event’s unique appeal comes from its mix of emerging filmmakers and award-winning talent, creating an experience that stands out year after year.

Local filmmakers are also taking center stage. One featured documentary highlights a student from Desert Hot Springs who overcame challenges, including relying on public Wi-Fi to complete schoolwork, ultimately finding success and opportunity.

Filmmakers say stories like these are important in showcasing both the struggles and the possibilities within the Coachella Valley, especially for younger audiences.

Students from local schools, including Palm Springs High School, attended screenings, with organizers hoping the films inspire the next generation of storytellers.

Now in its 33rd year, the festival continues to grow as a hub for creativity, education, and cultural exchange in the desert.
