Chocolate Heist: 12 Tons of KitKat Bars Stolen in Massive European Theft

A massive chocolate heist is making headlines after thieves stole more than 400,000 KitKat bars—totaling around 12 tons—from a truck in Europe.

The shipment, produced by Nestlé, was en route from a factory in central Italy to Poland when it was taken. The truck and its cargo remain missing as authorities continue their investigation.

According to the company, each of the 413,793 stolen bars can be tracked through batch numbers, and officials are asking anyone who comes across suspicious products to report them.

Despite the large-scale theft, Nestlé says there is no risk to consumer safety and that overall supply has not been impacted.

The incident highlights a growing trend of cargo theft across Europe. Industry reports show that organized theft and freight fraud are becoming more frequent and increasingly sophisticated.

In a statement, KitKat joked that while the brand encourages people to “have a break,” thieves may have taken the message too literally.

This isn’t the first chocolate-related crime in the region. In recent years, large-scale candy thefts—including tens of thousands of chocolate eggs—have also made headlines.

Authorities are continuing to search for the stolen shipment and those responsible.
