Dr. Adekemi Oguntala Highlights Link Between Emotional Health and Physical Symptoms
Understanding the connection between emotional health and physical symptoms is becoming a growing focus in modern healthcare.
Adekemi Oguntala, MD says traditional medicine often centers on diagnosing and treating symptoms, but a more comprehensive approach looks at the mind, body, and environment together.
Dr. Oguntala explains that many people don’t realize their physical discomfort may be tied to emotional stress. For example, back pain or tension may not just be physical—it could be linked to life events or ongoing stress.
By asking patients when symptoms began and what was happening in their lives at the time, she says it opens the door to a deeper understanding of the root cause.
She emphasizes that emotional awareness is especially important for teens and young adults, a time when identity and self-worth are still developing. Without proper guidance, she says, young people may be more vulnerable to anxiety and self-doubt.
Her advice for anyone looking to improve their health is simple: listen to your body.
Dr. Oguntala says the body communicates constantly, and learning to understand those signals can lead to better overall well-being.
