Florida Approves Plan to Rename Palm Beach Airport After Donald Trump
Travelers flying through South Florida could soon see a major name change at one of the region’s busiest airports.
Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that would rename Palm Beach International Airport to “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” following approval by the state legislature.
The change still requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before it can take effect. If approved, the new name would be implemented starting July 1.
The proposal would also update official government records and maps to reflect the new name and assign the airport a new code: “DJT.”
The measure was introduced by a Florida state lawmaker and is part of a broader effort to recognize Donald Trump in his home region.
Supporters say the move honors the president’s ties to the area, while critics have raised concerns about the potential for branding or financial benefit. However, representatives for the Trump Organization say neither Trump nor his family would receive any financial compensation tied to the renaming.
The legislation specifies that any branding or licensing associated with the name change would come at no cost.
If approved by federal authorities, the change would mark one of the most high-profile airport renamings in the country.
