Supreme Court Strikes Down Colorado's Conversion Therapy Ban

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down Colorado's ban on conversion therapy for minors Tuesday, ruling the law violates the free speech rights of a conservative Christian therapist who challenged it.
The 8-1 decision came after the court found that Colorado's ban regulates speech, not conduct, as the state had argued. The case was brought by a therapist who objected to the law on religious grounds.
The ruling is a significant blow to LGBTQ+ protections and carries national implications, as more than 20 other states have similar bans on the practice, which attempts to change a young person's sexual orientation or gender identity.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the court's sole dissenter.
