Talking with Thalia: Honoring the Women Who Inspire Us

It’s Women’s History Month, and Thalia Hayden is continuing her series by spotlighting the women who inspire and uplift the Palm Springs community.

After highlighting women entrepreneurs and the importance of leadership roles, Thalia took a more personal approach—heading out to the Social Cafe and Lounge to ask a simple yet powerful question: Who inspires you?

The answers were heartfelt and deeply personal.

For many, inspiration begins at home. Several people shared emotional tributes to their mothers. Grandmothers also emerged as pillars of strength.

Beyond family, some pointed to influential public figures. Music artist Brandi Carlile was praised for her advocacy and unwavering support of LGBTQ rights. Former First Lady Michelle Obama was admired for her intelligence, poise, and ability to lead with both strength and positivity. And media icon Oprah Winfrey was highlighted as a symbol of resilience—someone who overcame adversity to inspire millions.

Closer to home, local leaders are making an impact as well. A pastor at the United Methodist Church of Palm Springs was described as “wacky and wonderful,” a beacon of positivity and energy within the community.

While the stories were inspiring, the reality of ongoing inequality was also acknowledged. Women still earn significantly less than men, with projections suggesting it could take more than a century to close the gap. Still, there is optimism—progress is happening, and the momentum continues to build.

Back in the studio, the conversation came full circle as Thalia and Mary reflected on the women who have shaped their own lives—from mentors and mothers to each other.

Because at the heart of Women’s History Month is not just recognition—but connection, gratitude, and the shared belief that every woman’s story matters.
