Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says She Will Oppose All Military Aid to Israel, Including Iron Dome

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she will vote against any future U.S. military aid to Israel, including funding for the country’s Iron Dome missile defense system.

The New York Democrat made the remarks during a private forum with members of the Democratic Socialists of America, according to her office. The position represents a notable shift for Ocasio-Cortez, who has previously taken a more nuanced approach to defensive aid.

In a statement, she said that while allies may receive U.S. support, it must align with laws such as the Leahy amendment, which restricts assistance to foreign security forces accused of human rights violations.

Ocasio-Cortez added that Israel has the resources to fund its own defense systems, including Iron Dome, which is designed to protect civilians from rocket attacks.

“I will not support Congress sending more taxpayer dollars and military aid to a government that consistently ignores international law and U.S. law,” she said.

Her comments come amid growing debate within the Democratic Party over U.S. policy toward Israel. While some progressive lawmakers have pushed to limit or condition aid, others continue to support defensive funding, including for systems like Iron Dome.

The issue has become increasingly prominent as lawmakers navigate criticism of Israeli military actions in Gaza while balancing long-standing U.S. support for Israel’s security.
