Trump Set to Become First Sitting President to Attend Supreme Court Oral Arguments

President Trump will make history this morning as the first sitting president to attend oral arguments at the Supreme Court, appearing for a case that could fundamentally change who is considered a U.S. citizen by birth.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed to NBC News that Trump plans to be at the high court for arguments centered on an executive order he signed in January 2025. The order seeks to limit birthright citizenship to people who have at least one parent who is either a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident. Trump announced the visit himself to reporters during an Oval Office signing event.

The case directly challenges the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment, which has long been understood to grant citizenship to nearly anyone born on U.S. soil. If the court sides with the administration, it could affect children born in the United States to parents who are undocumented or on temporary visas, a change that would impact families across the country.
