Cathedral City Hosts Virtual Town Hall on Cannabis Odor Concerns and New Ordinance

Cathedral City leaders are addressing ongoing concerns about cannabis odors with a virtual town hall now underway.

The meeting, held over Zoom, gives residents an opportunity to learn more about the city’s updated cannabis odor ordinance and how it will be enforced. The city expanded its rules back in October after repeated complaints from neighbors living near indoor cultivation sites.

Residents say strong odors from some facilities have been noticeable inside their homes, prompting calls for stricter oversight and enforcement.

Under the updated ordinance, verified complaints can now lead to fines of up to $1,000 per day, significantly increasing the penalties for operators who fail to control odors.

City officials say the goal is to balance the legal cannabis industry with quality-of-life concerns for nearby residents.

The virtual meeting allows community members to ask questions, share experiences, and better understand how the new rules will be applied moving forward.
