Desert Wildlife Center Hosts Baby Shower Event to Support Injured and Orphaned Animals

The Desert Wildlife Center is calling on the community to help support local animals with a special “baby shower” event happening today.

The event is taking place at the center’s Van Buren Street location, where visitors can stop by, drop off needed supplies, and learn more about how injured and orphaned wildlife are cared for in the Coachella Valley.

NBC Palm Springs’ Thalia Hayden was on site, speaking with staff about the lifesaving work happening inside the facility. The center’s treatment room is where animals suffering from injuries like car strikes, window collisions, or poisoning are stabilized, treated, and prepared for eventual release back into the wild.

Staff say they rely heavily on public donations, as wildlife rehabilitation is not funded by tax dollars. With spring and summer bringing a surge in baby animals, the center expects to handle about 75% of its yearly cases in the coming months.

Visitors at the event can also explore educational displays, learn about local wildlife, and even pick up tips on how to safely coexist with animals like coyotes.

If you can’t attend in person, donations can still be made online through the Desert Wildlife Center’s website, where a wish list of needed items is available.

The event runs until 4 p.m., offering a chance for the community to support wildlife and help give injured animals a second chance at life.
