Local Nonprofit “Read With Me” Boosts Literacy Across Riverside County
Millions of Americans face challenges with literacy, and a local nonprofit is working to change that in Riverside County. Read With Me partners with schools to help students develop reading and English skills while fostering confidence and a love of learning.
At a recent appreciation event held at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas, volunteers and community leaders celebrated the program’s impact. Volunteers spend time alongside teachers in classrooms, providing individualized support to young readers.
Erin Heinlein highlighted the program’s reach, noting that over 100 children received support this year across 29 local schools. “Reading is more than fundamental—it’s access,” she said, emphasizing how literacy can empower students to reach their full potential.
Educators praised the nonprofit’s work. Dr. Kelly May Vollmark said the organization’s presence makes a measurable difference in early literacy efforts, while Dr. Edwin Gomez noted that volunteer support helps students achieve greater academic growth.
Organizers hope the event will inspire more volunteers to join, stressing that building stronger readers today helps cultivate future leaders in the community. By combining classroom support with mentorship, Read With Me continues to make literacy accessible and engaging for students across the region.
