Steve Hilton Outlines Vision as California Governor’s Race Heats Up
Republican candidate Steve Hilton is making his case to voters as the race for California governor intensifies ahead of the June primary.
In a recent interview, Hilton outlined his vision for the state, focusing on affordability, energy costs, and government spending. He argued that California’s current system is not working for everyday residents and pledged to reduce costs by revisiting energy policies and cutting what he describes as wasteful government spending.
According to recent polling from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies, Hilton holds a narrow lead with 17% support. Close behind is fellow Republican Chad Bianco at 16%, while several Democratic candidates—including Eric Swalwell, Katie Porter, and Tom Steyer— are competing to secure a spot in the top two.
Hilton, a former advisor to a U.K. prime minister, emphasized his background in government and business, saying it gives him a unique perspective on policy and economic challenges. He also highlighted his support for legal immigration while calling for changes to current enforcement approaches.
California’s primary system advances the top two vote-getters regardless of party affiliation, setting the stage for a competitive general election in November. As the June 2 primary approaches, candidates are continuing to sharpen their messages in hopes of securing a place on the final ballot.
