Atlanta Woman Dies After Zip-Lining Injury in Puerto Rico, Family Working to Bring Her Home
A metro Atlanta family is mourning the sudden loss of 40-year-old Tamirah Dix after what they describe as a tragic accident during a trip to Puerto Rico.
According to family members, Dix suffered a head injury while zip-lining on Saturday. Despite the incident, she continued with her day. Later that night, after going to sleep, she began experiencing seizures. She died while being transported to the hospital.
Back home in Marietta, the loss is being felt deeply among family, friends, and former classmates. Dix graduated from Marietta High School in 2004, and those who knew her say she left a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Her best friend, Brittani Hebron, described Dix as someone who uplifted others and brought joy into everyday life. The two met in high school and remained inseparable, often talking daily and sharing a close, sister-like bond.
Family members say Dix was the youngest of four siblings and known for her adventurous spirit, fearless personality, and deep love for her nieces and nephews.
Loved ones have described the incident as a “freak accident” and are now working to bring her body back home to Georgia. As of now, they are still awaiting autopsy results.
A vigil is planned for Saturday, April 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Marietta, as the community gathers to honor her life. A GoFundMe has also been created to help support the family during this difficult time.
