14th Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast Returns to Palm Springs Next Month

The 14th Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast is coming to the Palm Springs Convention Center on May 14th, bringing together community leaders, business owners, and equality advocates from across the Coachella Valley.

This year's honorees include Brandon Wolf, who will receive the Harvey Milk Leadership Award, and Judy and Dennis Shepard, founders of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, who will be recognized with the Legacy Award.

Organizers expect around 1,200 people to attend. Since the event launched, nearly 3,250 youth and 10,000 adults have heard from featured speakers, including civil rights champion Dolores Huerta, Cleve Jones, and Stuart Milk, among others.

Funds raised at the breakfast support LGBTQ+ youth programs throughout the Coachella Valley.

The breakfast honors Harvey Milk, who in 1977 became one of the first openly gay men elected to public office in the United States when he joined the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He was assassinated eleven months into his term, in November 1978. On election night, Milk told supporters, "This is not my victory, it's yours. If a gay man can win, it proves that there is hope for all minorities who are willing to fight."

Tickets and more information are available on the event's official website.
