ICE Agents Involved in Shooting During Arrest Attempt in Northern California

Developing news from Northern California, where a shooting involving federal immigration agents is now under investigation.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Patterson while attempting to arrest Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez.

Officials say Hernandez is a suspected gang member wanted in El Salvador for questioning in connection to a murder case.

Authorities report that during the stop, Hernandez allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon and attempted to run over officers. Agents then fired what they described as defensive shots.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital following the shooting. His condition has been reported as serious but stable.

The FBI is now leading the investigation, with assistance from other agencies.
