“Love! Valour! Compassion!” Opens at Dezart Performs in Palm Springs This Week

A celebrated and deeply moving play is coming to the Palm Springs stage this week, as Dezart Performs presents “Love! Valour! Compassion!”

The Tony Award-winning play, written by Terrence McNally, opens Thursday, April 9 and runs through April 19. The production explores themes of love, friendship, illness, and loss, set against the backdrop of a pivotal time during the AIDS crisis.

Actors Chris Carranza and Tim Frangos say being part of the production has been both meaningful and rewarding. The show offers an honest and emotional portrayal of a group of gay men navigating life, relationships, and hardship during a defining era.

Carranza plays Ramon, a bold and unapologetic character who shakes up the dynamic of the group. He describes Ramon as someone who is “loud and proud,” bringing energy and disruption to the story.

Frangos takes on the role of Bobby, a blind man in a relationship with Gregory, the owner of the house where the story unfolds. His character undergoes a personal transformation throughout the play, rediscovering parts of himself along the way.

Both actors say the story balances heavy subject matter with moments of joy and connection, making it a true emotional journey for audiences.

“Love! Valour! Compassion!” is known for its powerful storytelling and remains as relevant today as when it first premiered in 1994.

The production runs April 9 through April 19 at Dezart Performs in Palm Springs.
