New Video Raises Questions in Minneapolis ICE Shooting Case

Newly released video from the City of Minneapolis is providing a clearer look at a January incident in which a man was shot in the leg by federal immigration agents — and it’s raising new questions about what actually happened.

The roughly nine-minute surveillance video, released Monday, shows the moments leading up to the January 14 shooting on the city’s north side. The footage does not include audio but captures key movements during the encounter.

About two and a half minutes into the video, a sedan is seen crashing into a snowbank. Police lights appear shortly after, and a man identified as Alfredo Aljorna is seen running from the vehicle toward a nearby home.

Another man, standing on the sidewalk with a snow shovel, appears to drop it as a federal immigration agent pursues Aljorna. A brief struggle follows between the three individuals before they move toward the home.

The video appears to show the agent firing his weapon toward the home’s entryway.

Federal officials had previously stated the agent was attacked with weapons, including a snow shovel, and acted in self-defense. Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident as an attempted murder.

However, the newly released footage appears to show a much shorter and less intense altercation than previously described.

Aljorna’s attorney has disputed the earlier claims, saying video evidence makes it more difficult for inaccurate accounts to stand.

An ICE spokesperson now says officers involved in the incident appear to have made untruthful statements and confirmed both agents have been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials review the newly surfaced video and determine next steps.
