“Bedtime Stacking” Could Be Sabotaging Your Sleep
It’s the latest viral trend taking over social media. “Bedtime stacking.”
Popular on apps like TikTok, the trend shows users completing their entire nighttime routine without ever leaving their bed. That includes everything from reading and scrolling on their phones to snacking and even doing skincare. But while it may look cozy and convenient, sleep experts say parts of this habit could actually do more harm than good. Doctors warn that using your bed for multiple activities can confuse your brain and weaken the mental connection between your bed and sleep. Over time, that can make it harder to fall and stay asleep. There is also concern about screen time. Exposure to blue light from phones and tablets before bed can disrupt your body’s natural sleep cycle and make it more difficult to wind down.
Experts say the key to better sleep is consistency and creating a clear boundary. Your bed should primarily be for sleep. Establishing a calming, screen free routine before getting into bed can help signal to your body that it is time to rest. Mandy Gaither explains why “bedtime stacking” could potentially lead to insomnia and what doctors recommend instead to set you up for better sleep.
