Airbnb Party in Citrus Heights Spirals Out of Control, Leaves Thousands in Damage

A quiet neighborhood in Citrus Heights was thrown into chaos after a large Airbnb party spiraled out of control, leaving behind significant damage and raising concerns about short-term rental oversight.

Police say calls started pouring in around 10 p.m. reporting a massive gathering at a home on Dunmore Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a large crowd, with video showing people climbing off the roof as the situation escalated.

Authorities initially believed the home was vacant, but later confirmed it was being used as an Airbnb rental. The property had reportedly been booked using a fake profile posing as an elderly person.

Law enforcement responded in force, using a drone and air support to help disperse the crowd. Neighbors described the scene as overwhelming, with streets blocked off as police worked to regain control.

Despite the scale of the party, no arrests were made. Police say legal limitations played a role, as the gathering was taking place at a rented property.

The homeowner now faces thousands of dollars in damage and says the incident has caused emotional distress. Meanwhile, neighbors say the party was far larger than typical short-term rental gatherings and are calling for stronger safeguards to prevent similar incidents.

Airbnb says the guest responsible has been suspended and emphasized that disruptive parties are not allowed on its platform. The company is now cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
