Hundreds of Dogs Roaming in Thermal as Volunteers Race to Respond to Growing Crisis
An animal crisis is unfolding in Thermal, where residents say hundreds of dogs are roaming the streets, many in desperate need of help. Neighbors in the area report seeing large numbers of stray and abandoned animals wandering without access to consistent food, water, or shelter. While some of the dogs appear to have been left behind, others are believed to still have owners who are struggling financially and unable to keep up with the rising cost of pet care, including food and veterinary services.
The growing population of dogs has raised concerns about both animal welfare and public safety, as packs continue to roam through neighborhoods and rural areas.
In response, a small but dedicated group of volunteers has stepped in, working tirelessly to provide relief. They are organizing feeding efforts, distributing supplies, and trying to connect animals with much-needed medical care. However, they say the need far outweighs their current resources. Among those helping is community contributor Jen Agnew, who joined the effort on the ground. She’s taking an in-depth look at the scope of the crisis, the challenges volunteers face, and what solutions may be needed moving forward. Volunteers say community support is critical right now. Donations are being used to purchase food, cover veterinary expenses, and supply basic necessities for the animals.
