Court Battle Paused as State Supreme Court Reviews Riverside Election Investigation Case
The legal dispute involving Rob Bonta and Chad Bianco over a 2025 election investigation is now on hold as both sides await further direction from the California Supreme Court.
Attorneys for both the state and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department are requesting that proceedings in Riverside County Superior Court be paused, including a scheduled April 13 hearing. The joint request asks that the case remain on hold until the higher court completes its review.
On April 8, the California Supreme Court agreed to hear the case, issuing an emergency stay and ordering the sheriff’s office to temporarily halt its investigation into the 2025 special election. The court also directed officials to preserve all related evidence during the review process.
Both parties have proposed filing a joint status update within four days after the Supreme Court concludes its proceedings to determine any next steps.
The case continues to draw attention across California as it involves questions about election procedures, investigative authority, and legal oversight between state and county officials.
