Rep. Eric Swalwell Denies Sexual Misconduct Allegations as Multiple Women Come Forward
Multiple allegations of sexual misconduct have surfaced against Eric Swalwell, as four women accuse the California lawmaker of inappropriate behavior, including one former staffer who alleges assault.
The former staffer claims the incident occurred after she was no longer employed in Swalwell’s office, alleging she was heavily intoxicated at the time and did not consent. She also described a prior encounter during her time working for him that she says involved nonconsensual contact.
Three other women told CNN they experienced various forms of misconduct, including unsolicited explicit messages and inappropriate advances. Some described interactions that began through social media and later escalated.
Swalwell has strongly denied all allegations, calling them false and politically motivated. In a statement, he said he has always conducted himself appropriately and plans to defend himself against the claims.
His legal team has also sent cease-and-desist letters to some of the accusers, disputing their accounts and warning of potential legal action.
CNN reports it found corroboration for parts of the women’s accounts, including text messages and statements shared with friends and family members at the time of the alleged incidents.
The allegations come as Swalwell is gaining attention in California’s competitive governor’s race, adding a political dimension to the unfolding situation.
Some former staffers have spoken in support of Swalwell, describing him as professional and respectful, while others say the allegations have had lasting personal impacts.
The situation remains developing, with no criminal charges announced at this time.
