New Federal Food Guidelines Could Add Over $1,000 to Your Grocery Bill

Following the federal government's updated dietary guidelines, eating "by the book" could cost American households significantly more at the grocery store.
Researchers with Numerator found that following the U.S. Department of Agriculture's new recommendations would add more than $1,000 to your annual grocery bill, a 32% jump from current spending.
The USDA, which updated its guidelines at the start of the year, essentially flipped its previous recommendations. Where carbohydrates once dominated the plate, the agency now suggests that proteins, dairy, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables make up the largest portions of a diet.
