Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder in Attack on OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s Home
The suspect accused of targeting the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is now facing serious criminal charges.
Authorities say 20-year-old Daniel Moreno-Gama has been charged with attempted murder and attempted arson after allegedly throwing an incendiary device at Altman’s San Francisco home.
Investigators say the suspect then went to OpenAI’s headquarters, where he allegedly tried to damage the building and made threats to burn it down.
Officials describe the attack as “planned” and “targeted,” noting that Moreno-Gama was allegedly carrying documents expressing strong opposition to artificial intelligence and calling for violence against tech leaders.
No one was injured in the incident, but authorities say the situation posed a serious danger to both Altman and others nearby.
The suspect now faces both state and federal charges, and prosecutors say additional charges—including potential domestic terrorism—are being considered.
Officials are also seeking to have Moreno-Gama held without bail as the case moves forward.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to examine the motive behind the attack and any broader threats.
