King Charles to Address Congress, Meet Privately With President Trump During U.S. State Visit

King Charles III will address a joint meeting of Congress and meet privately with President Donald Trump during a state visit to the United States later this month, according to Buckingham Palace and multiple published reports. The king and Queen Camilla are scheduled to visit Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia from April 27 through April 30 before continuing on to Bermuda.

The visit is designed to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence while also spotlighting the long-standing ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. Reuters reported the visit comes at a delicate diplomatic moment, with British officials hoping the king’s ceremonial role can help reinforce relations between the two allies.

During the Washington portion of the trip, Charles and Camilla are expected to take part in a formal welcome ceremony, attend a state dinner, and join events recognizing the military partnership between the two nations. Charles is also scheduled to speak to Congress on April 28, becoming the second British monarch to do so. Queen Elizabeth II addressed Congress in 1991.

After leaving Washington, the royal couple is expected to travel to New York for events that include honoring the victims of 9/11 and highlighting youth and community initiatives. Stops in Virginia are also planned as part of the broader effort to celebrate cultural, historical, and economic connections between the two countries.
