Cabaret Takes the Stage in Rancho Mirage This Weekend with Timely and Powerful Themes
Desert Theatricals is bringing a bold and thought-provoking production of Cabaret to the stage this weekend at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater.
Set in 1929 Berlin during the rise of Nazi power, the show takes audiences inside the Kit Kat Klub, where dazzling performances unfold against a backdrop of growing political unrest. Beneath the spectacle, the story explores themes of identity, denial, and the consequences of looking away.
NBC Palm Springs’ Mary Strong sat down with director and choreographer Ray Limon and actor Jeffrey Scott Parsons, who returns as the Emcee, to discuss what makes this production especially timely. Limon says this version leans into a darker, edgier tone than many remember, creating a more intimate experience. He adds the Kit Kat Klub serves as a metaphor for a society on the brink.
Parsons says returning to the Emcee allows him to explore new layers of the character, guiding the audience while reflecting the shifting world around him.
Both hope audiences leave entertained but also thinking about the show’s themes of rising intolerance and political change.
Cabaret runs this weekend at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater. Tickets and information are available at BroadwayInTheDesert.com.
