Crash-and-grab burglars use Jeep to steal ATM from Chicago gas station

Crash-and-grab burglars use Jeep to steal ATM from Chicago gas station

A bold crash-and-grab burglary in Chicago is raising concerns after thieves used a vehicle to smash into a gas station and steal an ATM.

Police say the incident happened early Tuesday morning at a gas station in the River North neighborhood. A clerk inside the store reported that a white Jeep rammed through the front doors not once, but twice, before suspects quickly moved in on their target.

According to witnesses, the group appeared focused on the ATM inside the store. Within seconds, they managed to remove the machine and flee the scene in a separate vehicle, leaving the Jeep behind.

No injuries were reported, and the store was able to reopen later that morning, but the damage left behind shocked customers and employees alike.

The incident is part of a troubling pattern. Authorities say there have been at least four similar ATM thefts in Chicago in recent weeks, including another case where suspects used a Jeep to crash into a business and steal a machine.

While the methods appear similar, police have not confirmed whether the same group is responsible for the string of crimes.

Investigators are still working to determine how much money was inside the stolen ATM and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

As these smash-and-grab burglaries continue, business owners are left dealing with costly damage—and growing concerns about security.
