Demolition Begins in Palm Desert for New Library, Visitor Center Project

Demolition is now underway in Palm Desert as the city moves forward with plans for a major new civic project.

Crews have begun tearing down the Parkview office building located on the Civic Center campus. The site will be transformed into a new city-owned space that will house a modern library, along with a visitor center, café, and community meeting areas.

City officials say the project is designed to create a central hub for residents and visitors, offering expanded resources and gathering spaces in the heart of Palm Desert.

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin this summer, with a projected opening set for early 2028.

The new library will eventually replace the current facility located at College of the Desert once that lease expires, marking a significant shift in how library services are delivered in the city.

Officials say the project reflects long-term planning to meet the growing needs of the community while enhancing the Civic Center campus.
