Ernest Shackleton Loves Me Opens at CV Rep Featuring Actor Matt Miles

A one-of-a-kind theatrical experience is coming to the Coachella Valley as Ernest Shackleton Loves Me opens at CV Rep on April 22nd.

The two-person musical stars Chicago-based actor Matt Miles, who takes on the role of famed Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton. The show blends history with imagination, telling the story of Shackleton’s legendary Endurance expedition through the perspective of another character, Kat, adding a creative and emotional layer to the real-life events.

Miles says portraying a historical figure comes with its challenges, especially for audience members familiar with Shackleton’s story. While the production stays true to the major events of the expedition, it also explores the character through a more personal, storybook lens.

What sets this production apart is its innovative use of music and technology. The performers create much of the show’s sound live on stage using instruments like banjo, guitar, and violin, combined with looping technology and digital tools like Ableton Live. The result is a dynamic mix of bluegrass and pop music performed in real time.

Miles, who has performed the role before in Chicago, says he continues to discover new layers in the character with each production. With a fast-paced, 90-minute runtime, the show packs in both emotional depth and historical storytelling.

In addition to theater, Miles has experience in television and film and regularly travels the country for productions. After his run at CV Rep, he’s set to appear in Murder on the Orient Express in Colorado.

Ernest Shackleton Loves Me runs from April 22nd through May 10th at CV Rep.
