Independent Film Crew Shoots Around the Coachella Valley

Signs of a continued film industry resurgence are emerging in the Coachella Valley, as independent productions increasingly choose the desert as a backdrop.

One such project, Playing the Float, is currently filming across multiple valley locations. The film tells the true story of photographer J. “Salvatorie” Tangorre, who has worked with major figures including Tommy Hilfiger, Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Lopez, and Snoop Dogg.

The story follows Tangorre's life after a job site electrocution and the legal battle that followed.

Production has taken place at several local sites, including the Walter Clark Legal Group, where key courtroom scenes and depositions were recreated.

Filmmakers say shooting in real locations adds authenticity to the story, especially in spaces tied directly to personal injury and legal proceedings.

The production has also employed local crew members, including NBC Palm Springs photographer James Snow, further boosting regional involvement in the project.

Producers say the film is expected to enter the festival circuit, adding to growing momentum for filmmaking activity across the Coachella Valley.
