Jamie Dornan cast as Aragorn in new Lord of the Rings prequel film
A new chapter in Middle-earth is taking shape, with Jamie Dornan cast as Aragorn in the upcoming “Lord of the Rings” prequel film.
The movie, titled “The Hunt for Gollum,” is set to hit theaters in December 2027 and will explore an earlier chapter in Aragorn’s story, focusing on his mission to track down Gollum before the events of the original trilogy.
The role of Aragorn was famously portrayed by Viggo Mortensen in the original films, making Dornan’s casting a notable passing of the torch for one of fantasy cinema’s most beloved characters.
The film will be directed by Andy Serkis, who will also return as Gollum. Several familiar faces are also expected to reprise their roles, including Elijah Wood as Frodo and Ian McKellen as Gandalf.
New additions to the cast include Kate Winslet and Leo Woodall, expanding the story with new characters alongside returning favorites.
The project is being produced by Peter Jackson, along with longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, the creative team behind the original Oscar-winning trilogy.
Set between the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the film aims to dive deeper into Aragorn’s past and the larger story surrounding Gollum’s capture.
With a mix of returning legends and new talent, the film is expected to generate major excitement among fans of the franchise as it brings another untold story from Middle-earth to the big screen.
