Kacey Musgraves Kinetic Mural Unveiled in Indio Ahead of New Album Release
The City of Indio is welcoming festival season with a bold new piece of public art, unveiling a kinetic mural celebrating 8-time Grammy Award-winning artist Kacey Musgraves and her upcoming album, “Middle of Nowhere,” set to release May 1, 2026.
The mural is located along Varner Road and is designed to catch the attention of the hundreds of thousands of visitors heading into Indio for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival at the Empire Polo Club.
Created by visual artist Hervey Garcia, the installation features a desert-inspired scene, highlighted by a powerful bull kicking up dust alongside the album title and Musgraves’ signature. What makes the mural stand out is its kinetic design — an innovative approach that creates the illusion of motion.
Using multiple sequential frames, the mural appears to animate as drivers pass by at around 50 miles per hour, transforming the artwork into a moving visual experience. It’s a unique blend of art and motion, designed specifically for those traveling through the area.
City officials say the mural not only celebrates Musgraves’ new music but also enhances Indio’s growing reputation as a hub for creative expression, especially during one of the busiest times of the year.
Visitors are encouraged to check out the mural along Varner Road while traveling through Indio, offering a one-of-a-kind experience that brings art to life in the desert.
