Ben McKenzie calls crypto a “Ponzi scheme” in new documentary as Rihanna makes music history
Actor and author Ben McKenzie is taking a critical look at cryptocurrency in his new documentary, “Everyone is Lying to You for Money.”
McKenzie, who has a background in economics, explores the rise of crypto and questions its legitimacy, calling the industry deeply flawed and, at times, misleading. In the film, he investigates how digital currencies have gained massive popularity, often backed by celebrity endorsements and a multitrillion-dollar industry.
The documentary also highlights the challenges of changing minds within the crypto community, suggesting that some investors remain committed even after suffering financial losses. McKenzie compares parts of the movement to a “culty” mindset, where belief can outweigh evidence.
While acknowledging that many people are drawn to crypto out of frustration with economic inequality and limited financial opportunity, McKenzie argues that cryptocurrency is not the solution it promises to be. He also raises concerns about scams and lack of investor protections, urging stronger safeguards for those putting money into the market.
At the same time, the segment notes a major milestone in the music industry. Rihanna has officially become the first woman to surpass 200 million singles certifications, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
The achievement puts her among the top artists of all time, trailing only Drake and Morgan Wallen in total singles certifications. Despite releasing singles in recent years, Rihanna has not put out a full album in nearly a decade.
The Recording Industry Association of America bases its certifications on a combination of sales, streaming, and other metrics, awarding gold, platinum, and diamond status to top-performing releases.
Together, the stories highlight two very different sides of the entertainment world—one raising questions about financial trends, and the other celebrating historic success in music.
