Manny The Movie Guy: Horror Reimagined in The Mummy and Action Thrills in Normal
A fresh batch of films is hitting theaters, offering audiences everything from chilling horror to explosive action.
First up is The Mummy, directed by Lee Cronin. This isn’t the adventurous take fans may remember from earlier versions. Instead, Cronin delivers a dark, visceral horror story centered on a young girl who vanishes in the desert—only to return years later in a terrifying, transformed state.
The film leans heavily into body horror, with unsettling visuals and sound design that heighten the tension. At its core, the story explores deeper emotional themes, particularly fear within families. Newcomer Natalie Grace delivers a haunting performance, helping anchor the film’s most disturbing moments. While its 133-minute runtime may feel slow at times, the intense third act leaves a lasting impression. The film earns three out of four “bloody kisses.”
Also in theaters is Normal, starring Bob Odenkirk as a substitute sheriff pulled into a dangerous conspiracy after a bank robbery goes wrong. Directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Derek Kolstad—known for the John Wick series—the film delivers fast-paced action and sharp storytelling.
Supporting performances from Henry Winkler and Lena Headey add depth and energy to the film. With its mix of violence, humor, and suspense, Normal also earns three out of four “not quite normal kisses.”
Whether you’re in the mood for unsettling horror or adrenaline-filled action, both films offer compelling reasons to head to the theater.
