Manny the Movie Guy previews “The Mummy” reboot and “Normal” in big weekend at the movies

It’s a big weekend at the movies, with a mix of intense horror and high-energy action hitting theaters.

First up is a darker, more terrifying take on “The Mummy,” directed by Lee Cronin. Known for his work on “Evil Dead Rise,” Cronin brings a brutal, body-horror twist to the classic story.

The film follows a young girl who disappears in the desert, only to return years later in a chilling and mysterious form. The movie leans heavily into visceral horror, with unsettling visuals and sound design that push the limits. Newcomer Natalie Grace delivers a standout performance in a film that explores deep fears surrounding family and the unknown. Despite a longer runtime, the film’s intense third act leaves a lasting impact. It earns three out of four “bloody kisses.”

Switching gears, “Normal” offers a fast-paced action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk as a small-town substitute sheriff who gets pulled into a dangerous conspiracy.

Directed by Ben Wheatley and written by Derek Kolstad—best known for the John Wick franchise—the film combines humor, action, and unexpected twists. Supporting performances from Henry Winkler and Lena Headey add even more energy to the story.

“Normal” delivers a fun, action-packed ride and also scores three out of four kisses.

Whether you’re in the mood for terrifying horror or explosive action, this weekend’s movie lineup offers something for everyone.
