2 Dead After Planned Fight Turns Into Shooting Near North Carolina Middle School

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — What began as a planned physical confrontation between two juveniles escalated into a deadly mass shooting at a North Carolina park on Monday morning. Winston-Salem authorities confirmed that two people were killed in the exchange of gunfire, which took place at Leinbach Park on Robinhood Road.

The Winston-Salem Police Department received an initial call regarding a fight in progress at approximately 9:52 a.m. While officers were en route to the scene, the situation rapidly deteriorated, and the call was upgraded to a shooting. Police Assistant Chief Jake Swaim stated that multiple individuals began shooting at one another after the initial dispute between the two juveniles spiraled out of control.

The park where the shooting occurred is located in close proximity to Jefferson Middle School. While the violence caused significant concern for parents and faculty, law enforcement officials confirmed that both Jefferson Middle School and nearby Mount Tabor High School remained secure and continued normal operations throughout the day. Police have urged parents to use alternate routes when picking up students, as the Robinhood entrance to the middle school remained blocked off for the investigation.

Winston-Salem police have characterized the shooting as an isolated incident and noted that several individuals, including both suspects and victims, have already been identified and located. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is also assisting with the active crime scene as forensic teams work to process evidence at the park.
