Dust Advisory Issued for Northern Coachella Valley Overnight
The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a windblown dust advisory for parts of the Coachella Valley, warning of potentially hazardous air quality conditions overnight.
The advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday, with the greatest impacts expected in the northern portion of the valley. Officials say blowing dust and elevated levels of particle pollution could reach “very unhealthy” levels at times.
Health experts are urging residents to stay indoors as much as possible, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity when dust levels are high. Those with respiratory conditions, children, and older adults may be especially vulnerable to the effects of poor air quality.
Drivers are also advised to slow down when traveling on dirt roads, as vehicle movement can contribute to increased dust in the air.
Officials recommend monitoring local air quality updates and taking precautions to reduce exposure during the advisory period.
