House Ethics Committee Calls on Public to Report Sexual Misconduct by Lawmakers

In an unusual public move, the House Ethics Committee is asking anyone with a sexual misconduct complaint against a sitting lawmaker to come forward and report it.
The written statement says the committee is dedicated to "a workplace free from sexual misconduct" and ensuring that perpetrators are held responsible. The announcement comes on the heels of Representatives Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales stepping down amid a wave of such allegations against them.
Republican Representative Cory Mills is currently under investigation by the committee.
Since 2017, the committee says it has initiated 20 investigations into lawmakers over sexual misconduct.
