Pilot Hospitalized After Small Plane Crashes into Pacoima Parking Lot

PACOIMA, Calif. — A small plane crash sent a pilot to the hospital and forced evacuations in the Los Angeles suburb of Pacoima on Monday. Authorities say the aircraft, identified as a Cessna, clipped a high-voltage power pole before flipping and slamming into the parking lot of a local auto parts store.

The pilot was extracted from the wreckage and transported to a nearby medical facility. As of Monday afternoon, the pilot's condition remains unknown.

The impact with the power pole caused immediate disruption to the surrounding area. Emergency responders worked quickly to contain an apparent fuel spill near the wreckage to prevent further hazards. Due to the proximity of the high-voltage lines and the risk posed by the fuel, several nearby homes and businesses were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Utility workers were called to the scene to restore power and secure the damaged lines. While power is being restored to the neighborhood, the parking lot of the auto parts store remains cordoned off as part of the investigation.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) typically oversee investigations into small aircraft accidents. Local authorities have not yet determined what caused the Cessna to lose altitude or strike the utility pole.
