FBI and House Committee Investigate Mysterious Deaths and Disappearances of 10 U.S. Scientists

WASHINGTON — Federal investigators and the House Oversight Committee are sounding the alarm after a string of mysterious deaths and disappearances involving at least 10 individuals tied to sensitive U.S. research. The victims—ranging from nuclear physicists and aerospace engineers to a retired Air Force general—were all connected to high-level work within the Department of Energy, NASA, and the military.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the bureau is "spearheading the effort" to identify potential links between the cases, focusing on whether these scientists had access to classified information that made them targets for foreign actors or internal "nefarious conduct."

A GROWING LIST OF COLD CASES

The investigation spans several high-profile incidents across the country, starting in 2023. Key names in the probe include:

* NUNO F.G. LOUREIRO: The MIT fusion scientist and physicist was fatally shot outside his Massachusetts home in December 2025.

* WILLIAM NEIL MCCASLAND: A retired Air Force major general who commanded advanced aerospace research. He has been missing from his New Mexico home since February, leaving behind his phone and prescription glasses.

* MONICA REZA: A top aerospace engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) who vanished during a hike in Los Angeles in June 2025.

* MICHAEL DAVID HICKS: A JPL veteran of 25 years specializing in comets and asteroids whose cause of death in 2023 remains undisclosed.

The House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer, announced its own investigation on Monday. Comer noted that the "suspicious" nature of these cases has turned the matter into a national security priority for Congress.

THE UFO AND "ROSWELL" CONNECTION

Speculation has reached a fever pitch online, particularly regarding the scientists' ties to fringe or sensitive aerospace programs. Rep. Eric Burlison highlighted the 2024 death of Matthew James Sullivan, a former Air Force intelligence officer who was reportedly set to testify in a federal UFO whistleblower case before his death, which Burlison labeled "suspicious."

The probe also touches on the legendary Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, which General McCasland once commanded. While his family has dismissed rumors linking his disappearance to "Roswell" or extraterrestrial debris, the FBI is not ruling out any angle involving the specialized knowledge these individuals possessed.

"NO STONE UNTURNED"

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump is being briefed regularly on the matter, calling it "pretty serious stuff." The White House is currently coordinating a holistic review with the Department of Energy, NASA, and the FBI to determine if a foreign conspiracy or a coordinated effort to undermine U.S. technological superiority is at play.

While NASA maintains that there is currently "no indication of a national security threat," the FBI’s Patel warned that arrests would follow if any evidence of a conspiracy is uncovered. As investigators look for a common thread, the families of the missing and deceased remain in limbo, waiting to see if these cases are a tragic coincidence or something far more calculated.
