IID Launches 2026 Summer Savings Initiative to Lower Bills and Strengthen Grid Reliability

The Imperial Irrigation District is officially launching its 2026 Summer Savings initiative, a comprehensive set of new programs designed to help Coachella Valley and Imperial Valley residents manage their electricity use and lower their monthly bills. As temperatures begin to climb, the district is focused on providing customers with more control over their energy costs while simultaneously supporting the reliability of the regional power grid.

The centerpiece of this year's effort is the "Shift and Save!" program. Under this new incentive, eligible customers who choose to switch to IID’s optional Time-of-Use rate can earn a one-time $250 prepaid Mastercard. The program aims to encourage residents to move their high-energy activities—such as running dishwashers, laundry machines, or pool pumps—away from the peak demand hours of 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., when the strain on the electrical system is highest.

In addition to the rate incentives, the district is opening the IID Power Store, an online marketplace specifically built for IID customers. The store offers instant rebates on a wide variety of energy-efficient products, allowing residents to save money at the point of purchase on items like smart thermostats, LED lighting, and high-efficiency appliances. By making these products more affordable, the district hopes to reduce overall household energy consumption before the peak of summer.

Another significant addition is "EnergyFlex," a voluntary demand-response program. EnergyFlex rewards customers for making a conscious effort to reduce or shift their energy use during specific periods when demand on the grid is at its absolute highest. These voluntary actions help prevent the need for more drastic measures during extreme heat events and allow participants to earn rewards for their conservation efforts.

The 2026 initiative also includes the expansion of existing public benefit programs. The district has shortened eligibility cycles for home energy upgrades and expanded appliance replacement options for qualifying low-income customers. Residents interested in participating in any of these new summer programs, or those looking to enroll in the Time-of-Use rate to secure their $250 prepaid card, are encouraged to visit the Imperial Irrigation District’s official website for full eligibility details and enrollment forms.
