Devil Dogs, Woodpeckers, and Secret Codes: Happy Monday from Jerry Steffen!
First up, it is National Devil Dog Day, honoring the iconic cream and chocolate-filled snack cake that Drake Foods first introduced all the way back in 1926, making it a century old today. The name has military roots, a nickname for some of the brave soldiers who served in World War II, and it found its way onto a beloved treat that has been satisfying sweet tooths ever since.
Next, today marks National Woody Woodpecker Day, a nod to the beloved cartoon bird who reached peak popularity between 1940 and 1972. Co-created by animator Walter Lantz, Woody left a lasting mark on animation history, and apparently on our holiday calendar too.
And rounding out the trio, today is Morse Code Day, celebrating the iconic system of dots and dashes created by Samuel Morse, who was born on this very date in 1791. Fitting, then, that today's pop quiz has a very specific theme running through it.
